Mamta files FIR against Sudhir Chaudhary

There has been a lot of debate over this particular right in recent times. The current government was accused of curtailing this freedom of the people when it objected to anti-national slogans being raised at JNU. The one day ban on NDTV which was later called off also led to the people accusing the government of suppressing the media.

But here today we have a curious case of said “curtailment” but no one seems to be bothered this time around. Zee News and its ace reporter Sudhir Chaudhary have been extensively covering the West Bengal riots when no one else is. But he is also going to pay the price for this.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee has filed a FIR against Sudhir Chaudhary and another reporter of Zee News for reporting the riots of Dhulagarh, West Bengal.

Riots against Hindus have been incited in the state and many people have been injured in the same. This has been going on for more than a week now but no news channel dared to show the reality. Zee News was the only channel which extensively reported the situation in the state but now they are facing the brunt too.

People fume over Mamata’s FIR

When anti-national slogans were raised in JNU and when they were opposed, a number of intellectuals and journalists had lined up claiming that there is widespread intolerance in the country. The same had happened when a one day ban was handed over to NDTV. These intellectuals had called it curtailment of speech.

But they are nowhere to be seen now. They aren’t sharing their solidarity now. People fumed over these facts and the double standards of such people who take stands just to appease select communities. Watch how the people reacted.

The silence of the media houses and the intellectuals reflect the deep double standards of our politicians and journalists who will not utter a word despite the fact that West Bengal is burning at the moment.
