सुप्रीम कोर्ट द्वारा समलैंगिक संबंधों को अपराध की श्रेणी से बाहर करने के साथ ही भारत उन 25 अन्य देशों के साथ जुड़ गया जहां समलैंगिकता वैध है। शीर्ष अदालत ने धारा 377 के तहत सहमति से समलैंगिक यौन संबंधों को अपराध के दायरे से बाहर करते हुये कहा कि यह तर्कहीन, सरासर मनमाना और बचाव नहीं किये जाने वाला है। प्रधान न्यायाधीश दीपक मिश्रा की अध्यक्षता वाली पांच सदस्यीय संविधान पीठ ने सर्वसम्मति से 495 पेज में चार अलग अलग फैसलों में कहा कि एलजीबीटीक्यू समुदाय को देश के दूसरे नागरिकों के समान ही सांविधानिक अधिकार प्राप्त हैं।  लेकिन दुनियाभर में अब भी 72 ऐसे देश और क्षेत्र हैं जहां समलैंगिक संबंध को अपराध समझा जाता है। उनमें 45 वे देश भी हैं जहां महिलाओं का आपस में यौन संबंध बनाना गैर कानूनी है। उच्चतम न्यायालय की पांच सदस्यीय संविधान पीठ ने सितम्बर 6 को भारतीय दंड संहिता की धारा 377 के तहत 158 साल पुराने इस औपनिवेशिक कानून के संबंधित हिस्से को अपराध की श्रेणी से बाहर कर दिया और कहा कि यह समानता के अधिकार का उल्लंघन करता है। इंटरनेशनल लेस्बियन, गे, बाईसेक्सुअल, ट्रांस एंड इंटरस...
