Iran In World Football In the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil, quite a number of states had qualified for the most popular international mega event. One of the countries which had entered the World Cup was Iran, which is currently in the focus of international community’s attention because of the talks on their nuclear programme. Iran is also in the news, for their “ Hijabi Footballers!” Iran has appeared in the FIFA World Cup on four occasions: in 1978, 1998, 2006 and 2014. And they are yet to make it out of the group stages. January 11th, 2014 – Chittagong Nursing Institute lecturer Ms Anjali Debi Chaudhuri has been brutally killed by Islamic Militants. It is believed she was targeted by Islamic Chattra Shibir, the student wing of Jamat E Islami Bangladesh because she promoted a dress code at the institute which avoided the Hijab /Borka coverings for convenience and sanitation reasons after the “Hijab Movement for the Nurses” issued a fatwa making such dress compulsory for all Muslims students. Because she promoted a modern medical dress code (scrubs, not burquas), the Islamic Militant groups became upset and and brutally attacked her in broad daylight, killing her. Russia appears to be taking serious moves to combat the “radicalization” of Muslims within its border. Recent pro-Islamic reports are complaining that Russia is banning the Islamic hijab — the headdress Islamic law requires Muslim women to wear — and, perhaps even more decisively, key Islamic scriptures, on the charge that they incite terrorism. In the words of Arabic news site Elaph, “Russia is witnessing a relentless war on the hijab. It began in a limited manner but has grown in strength, prompting great concern among Russia’s Muslims.” The report continues by saying that women wearing the hijab are being “harassed” especially in the “big cities”; that they are encountering difficulties getting jobs and being “subject to embarrassing situations in public areas and transportation.
