Please hindus, don't say: "All Religions are the Same"

Maria Wirth is a German and came to India for a holiday after finishing her psychology studies at Hamburg University. She visited the Ardha Kumbha Mela in Haridwar in April 1980 where she met Sri Anandamayi Ma and Devaraha Baba, two renowned saints. With their blessing she continued to live in India and dived into India’s spiritual tradition, sharing her insights with German readers through articles and books. For long, she was convinced that every Indian knows and treasures his great heritage. However, when in recent years, she noticed that there seemed to be a concerted effort to prevent Indians (and the world) from knowing how valuable this ancient Indian heritage is, she started to point out the unique value of Indian tradition. Observations by someone who grew up in the stifling atmosphere of dogmatic Christianity and appreciates the freshness and freedom of undogmatic Hinduism– and wonders why a section of Hindus are so apologetic about their religion when it actually is ...

Raghuvansh Prasad Singh's beef remark an insult to all Hindus: Giriraj Singh

Patna, Oct. 10 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Giriraj Singh on Saturday criticised Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh's remark on beef, saying that it was an insult to all Hindus. "All this is part of the Mahagathbandhan's plan to divide society. First, Lalu Yadav tried to divide society on the lines of forward and backward (castes), then, he said that Hindus eat beef, and now, Raghuvansh Prasad Singh is saying that even rishis and munis used to eat beef. This is an insult to Hindus, Hindus will never tolerate this," Singh told media here. "Why is Nitish silent on these statements made by Lalu and Raghuvansh Singh? I want to ask him if Hindus will have to eat beef if you (Nitish) come to power," he added. BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain also condemned the remarks made by Mahagathbandhan leaders. "Defeat is clearly visible on the faces of the RJD and the Congress leaders. They ar...

On granting citizenship to Bangladeshi Hindus, Modi has been high on rhetoric but low on action

From putting  Article 370  in cold storage to abandoning the issue of Ram Mandir, Narendra Modi has disappointed his supporters in his first year in power by retreating from many of the classical policy positions of the Hindutva right. One exception to this, though, seems to be the issue of Indian citizenship for Bangladeshi Hindus. For a long time now, driven by a pan-Hindu nationalism, the Bharatiya Janata Party has been on paper the embattled Bangladeshi minority’s most fervent backer. During the Lok Sabha election campaign, Modi made it a core issue. And a month back, while speaking at a rally in Assam, BJP chief Amit Shah promised Bangladeshi Hindus Indian citizenship once the BJP came to power in the state. In spite of such powerful rhetoric, however, the BJP has made no concrete moves towards changing the Indian state’s policy towards Bangladeshi Hindus seeking citizenship, particularly because of the political opposition to the move in Assam. Migration history During ...
