New Delhi : The banned Communist Party of India-Maoists (CPI-Maoists) have issued a press release to condemn the arrest of JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar by the Delhi police on charges of sedition.
A press release issued by Shrinivas, believed to be the PRO of CPI-Maoists, West Sub Zonal Bureau, North – South Gadhchiroli, demands immediate release of Kanhaiya Kumar and calls his arrest a conspiracy by Hindu fascists. Maoists claim that the arrest is based on a forged video.
Maoists have called Kanhaiya “innocent” and his arrest an attack on progressive and secular forces in the country. CPI-Maoists has appealed different sections of the society to come together against it. When contacted, Sandip Patil, SP Gadchiroli said, “It is a strategy of Maoists to create unrest against the government.”

Later, cops had arrested Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya as they surrendered on February 24. Three other students wanted by police in this case – Anant Prakash Narayan, Ashutosh Kumar and Rama Naga, have not surrendered yet.
Meanwhile, in its press release the CPI-Maoists has claimed that RSS and ABVP is unable to digest that their popularity is reducing and hence have conspired to get Kanhaiya falsely implicated.
CPI-Maoists have stated, “Afzalguru ka naam lena deshdroh hai toh desh ki abadi ke 124 karod ki dhadkane deshdrohi hongi (If uttering the name of Afzal Guru is anti national, then the heart beats of 124 crore citizens of the court would be anti national)”.
