| Mamata addressing at Janta Mantar in New Delhi |
Addressing a rally against economic reforms at Jantar Mantar here, the Trinamool Congress chief said she might bring a no-confidence motion against the government during the next Parliament session.
"In the name of reforms, the government is looting the country by trying to end the employment of small farmers. Selling the country cannot be reforms. If you sell out, the people will boot you out -- that is the beauty of democracy," said Banerjee.A miffed Trinamool Congress chief had on Sunday said that the demonstration was part of her party's resolve to show solidarity with the ''aam aadmi'' or the common man who has been hurt by the new economic reforms announced by the Centre.
"This is not a dharna, but a protest rally. I have not brought anyone from West Bengal; only the locals and the party activists would participate in this protest over issues distressing common man," she said.
Banerjee had earlier requested all to join her in the democratic demonstration.
'The Trinamool withdrew support due to government's lack of confidence. I am not afraid, throw me in jail. I am not scared. I am in politics for the people and not for any selfish gains,' she said.
Banerjee announced nationwide protests against economic reforms in the coming months.
'TMC will stage protest in Haryana on November 2, hold rally in Lucknow on November 17 and has sought the support of Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav. It will also demonstrate in Delhi on November 19-20,' she said.
Launching a scathing attack at the union government, Banerjee said: 'The government should be for the people, not be there to terminate their existence. I stayed in the government for three years but was not heard.'
'People of the nation maybe hungry and naked, but they never lose hope or spirit. Our task is to protect the trader, farmer and the common man.' She said foreign direct investment would take jobs away and hit small industries.
Coming with a more aggressive form with power, after parting from UPA II, Trinamool Congress Chief Mamata Banerjee set to attack on Congress with FDI in retail controversial issue via her party agitation campaign at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi today which will start today.
FDI in multi retail was the major reason for her exiting decision from UPA, and it is her first rally in the national capital after UPA-II parting.
In favour of common men, TMC all party leaders including former Railway Minister and party leader Mukul Roy will take part in Jantar Mantar Protest against UPA’s reform where people all parts of India are approached to Jantar Mantar to see impact of Banerjee’s protest.
On her Facebook page, Banerjee hit out many verbal- written attacks on Government, recently she posted, “Looting is on in the name of aam admi and reforms.”
"Let us fight the battle boldly and unitedly. In a democracy, people are supreme. Our voice is the voice of the people. We must raise our voice, so that the government must reconsider," Banerjee had earlier said in a post on Facebook.
Asserting that the fight for the cause of common people continues with the help of ''Maa, Mati, Manush'' throughout the country, Banerjee said: "I am thankful to all of you for supporting our persistent protest against the unethical decisions on price hike of diesel, restriction of LPG cylinders, increase in fertilizer prices and permission of FDI in retail, which are not in the interest of the common people."
