Janata Dal (United) would contest Gujarat polls alone: Sharad Yadav

Carrying further its reservations over Narendra Modi, the Janata Dal (United), which runs a coalition with BJP in BIhar, has decided to contest assembly elections in Gujarat on its own.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, whose antipathy to Modi is well-known, will also campaign for the JD(U) candidates in Gujarat, where elections are due this year end.

Giving indications of the party's plans, JD(U) president Sharad Yadav told reporters "BJP is the larger party in the NDA. We will go for alliance with BJP wherever it wants us, but barring in Gujarat".

It is clear that whatever the drama Bihar JD(U) was playing over the declaration of the Prime Ministerial candidate was on the behest of none other than Sharad Yadav. The fact is Sharad Yadav is feeling suffocation in BJP and trying one or the other ocassion to creat rift in the NDA.

He was replying to a question whether JD(U) contesting elections separately in a state ruled by BJP will not give impression of a rift in the NDA.

Both party chief Sharad Yadav as well as Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar will campaign in Gujrat aggravating further the strains between Kumar and Modi that have come to the fore on more than one occasion.

Yadav, however, sought to downplay the development by maintaining that the JD(U) never had an alliance with the BJP in Gujarat.

He refrained from answering repeated queries on why the JD(U) is making an exception of Gujarat when it is ready to contest with BJP in alliance in all other states.

Yadav also refused to specify how many seats his party wants to contest in Gujarat saying it is for the state unit to decide.

There is speculation that the JD(U) state unit plans to contest 100 out of the 182 assembly seats in Gujarat in the coming assembly elections.

Yadav, however, said,"we have been fighting separately from BJP in Gujarat for a long time. We are as a part of the NDA alliance in many states, while in many others like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi, we fight separately. There was never an alliance in Gujarat." To a specific query whether the Bihar chief minister will go to campaign for JD(U) candidates in Gujarat this time, Yadav said that Kumar and he himself as well as a large number ministers of Bihar government had gone to campaign for the party candidates in last Gujarat assembly elections as well.

"Both of us (Sharad Yadav and Nitish Kumar) have campaigned there earlier also. We will do it this time as well," he said.

If BJP and JD(U) contest separately in Bihar and Narendra Modi  had campaigned with full force then it would be the end of JD(U) like it happened to more powerful JD(S) in Karnataka! Hope BJP would have called the bluff of JD(U).

It is fine that he distanced himself from Modi for the assembly elections in Bihar. But going it alone in Gujarat will work against any potential anti-incumbent tide that Modi may have. Nitish obviously is taking his political counsels too seriously. A national role with him as the PM is still a distant dream and he better faces that reality rather than trying to maximize the anti-congress wave by opening up a 3rd front. A 3rd front will be a lose-lose strategy for all..!!

BJP should come on its own

Its’ time for BJP high command not to allot even a single seat for JD(U). Otherwise, they will demand seats in cabinet and then try to harm Modi.

Nitish and Sharad Yadav to get out of NDA. They will create more issues if they stay in alliance. BJP should pull out of the government from Bihar, if they have some self respect for themselves. There is no need to beg Nitish as he was the begger in the last two elections with BJP and without BJP Nitish will not be sitting as CM of Bihar.. The joke is Nitish thinks too much of himself and thinks that he already achieved so much in Bihar. He can never match. Modi in terms of state growth and improvements and social goals that Modi had done. Nitish according to me is a liability to NDA.

Wonder why the BJP is not throwing out the JD(U) from the NDA alliance. They have really become a pain for the NDA. First the JD(U) votes for the Congress candidate Pranab as the President. Next they are dictating to the BJP as to who should be the next Prime Minister. The JD(U) cannot go to the UPA as the Fodder scam king Mr.Lalloo is already there in the UPA.

JD(U) contested many seats in UP recently in its kurmi-Muslim strongholds bordering Bihar without an alliance with BJP. JDU lost deposits in all seats showing the hollowness of the claim that Nitesh is known outside Bihar. Even within Bihar JDU may come at number 3, if there is no alliance with BJP as it had happened in the past for the Samata Party, the mother of present JD(U). The fight will be between RJD and BJP with all casteist parties like RJD, JDU, LJP and Congress fighting for Muslim/Bangladeshi illegals votes!

It is bad on the part to contest in Gujarat in opposition to the BJP. The sooner the NDA throws the JD (U) out of the NDA the better. By constantly challenging the BJP and embarassing the NDA, Nitish Kumar is buying a ticket on the UPA passenger Train that is headed nowhere.

JD(U) is now dreaming of ruling Gujarat after Bihar. They won in Bihar because people of Bihar wanted get rid of Lalu. JD(U) will get a good lesson in Gujarat. And in next Bihar election, BJP should not take support from JD(U) and Modi should campaign in Bihar against JD(U).

See all the infighting within NDA even before elections are held! Just imagine the chaos if this gang were to rule the country! There will be one new PM everyday :) All said and done, the Congress-led UPA is still the best bet for a stable governance in future also.

All big stalwarts who have Anti-Modi standing should contest Gujarat election and test their Anti-Modi feelings.This way they will come to know the real picture that in Gujarat,it's difficult to defeat Modi. Today's Gujarat is not like UP,Bihar,Haryana etc where you can fool people. Today,Gujarat is for development and they desperately needs Modi to take it as high as possible.People of Gujarat are for progress not for regress. Let Nitish or anyone else test the waters of Gujarat and than they will think twice before taking the risk!! Today in Indian political arena,all political figures are so scared of Modi's growing popularity,that they will try every possible tricks to stop Modi's ascend to the top.


How popular one Chief Minister is in his own state vis-à-vis in States outside is to be seen to be believed. If Bihar Chief Minister makes a decision to campaign for his party in Gujarat elections, he should be ready to accept more brickbats than bouquets, for he is opting to-beard-the lion-in-his-den.

The NDA will be pulled down by its own allies and the infighting in the BJP..Bal Thakarey wants Mrs.Sushma Swaraj as the P.M. Nitish Kumar does not want.Narendra Modi, Who the Akalis want as the Prime Minister. Jayalalithaa will want to become the Prime Minister if AIDMK wins 20 seats, The BJP will not project its Prime ministerial candidate until the elections are over. The electorate will be a confused lot and they will vote for any one and every one other than the BJP/NDA. Even if Mulayam wins 20-30 seats, he will be the king maker and he will be the Prime Minister supported by the corrupt congress party. So indirectly the congress will be ruling the country. NDA/BJP will be a total wash out inspite of the congress giving the NDA all the ammunition required to win the 2014 elections on a platter. The JD(U) realising that there is no point in continuing with the NDA will switch over to the UPA. The only hope for the BJP/NDA to come to power at the centre is to propose the name of Narendra Modi as the Prime Ministerial candidate and kick out the JD(U) from the NDA.
