Prime
Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Delhi from Lahore on December 25 night
after concluding his 3-nation visit. He was received at the Palam
airport by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
Earlier
in the day, in an unprecedented diplomatic development, Prime Minister
Narendra Modi landed in Lahore to meet his Pakistan counterpart Nawaz
Sharif on his way back from Afghanistan.
He
made an announcement on Twitter about the stopover to meet Sharif, who
is incidentally celebrating his birthday on December 25.
The
last visit to Pakistan by an Indian prime minister was in 2004 by Atal
Bihari Vajpayee, whose 91st birthday fell today and who is credited with
bringing about a thaw in relations with Islamabad.
Pakistan declared Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s brief visit to meet his counterpart Nawaz Sharif here a “purely goodwill” one and said they agreed to understand each other’s concerns and continue holding peace talks for prosperity in the region.

Sharif
had invited Modi to attend the marriage of his granddaughter Mehrun
Nisa which took place on at the Sharif’s Raiwind palatial
residence.
Briefing
the media after Nawaz-Modi meeting at Jati Umrah residence of Sharifs,
Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry said: “PM Modi’s visit to Lahore
was not a planned one. It was organised on a short notice after Mr Modi
expressed his wish to come here en route to Delhi from Afghanistan.”
He said Modi’s visit was “purely a goodwill visit” and PM Sharif has termed it “positive”.

“The
meeting between the two premiers was held in a cordial atmosphere. Both
premiers agreed to continue the peace process (between the two
countries) and work together for the purpose,” he said.
Though Modi has surprised his opponents through this visit to Pakistan. But recalling back, I am reminded that then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi used to visit Russia during her visit to other foreign soil. When one of the most populated leader of then Jana Sangh Prof Balraj Madhok satirically and objectionable questioned Indira in Parliament that "why she goes on any foreign soil and back to India via Russia...?" This question hit the then Opposition Leader in Lok Sabha so hard that before Indira or any other member of the Parliament could say any word, Atal Behari Vajpayee immediately requested the then Speaker to drop this question from the proceedings and from now Prof Madhok is expelled from the party,..."
But Modi visited Pakistan as a friendly gesture. What went between Nawaz Sharief and Modi, is their relations but believe it or not Modi has hit too many sparrows from one arrow. Really a very very drastic step by Modi landing on the soil of not Pakistan but in terrorists' den.
By stepping there, Modi has penned on the walls of Pakistan, which any Chanakya could read very easily.
