Samar Acharjee on a bed of cash Agartala:  The CPI(M) has expelled its leader in Tripura who lay on a bed of cash withdrawn from his own bank account to fulfill a long cherished dream. Jogendranagar committee member of the CPI(M) in Agartala, Samar Acharjee, a contractor by profession, was shown lying on bundles of currency notes on television footage. Mr Acharjee was heard in the footage saying, "I have withdrawn 20 lakhs from my bank account and fulfilled my long cherished dream of sleeping on a bed of money."  But more damagingly, the CPI(M) leader said in the telecast last Thursday, "I am not a hypocrite like other party members who depict themselves as proletariat, yet have a huge amount of money." An investigation by the CPM, that runs the government in Tripura headed by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, famed for his honesty, has revealed that Acharjee himself took the footage on his own mobile phone which was leaked to a television channel by his friend

HYDERABAD: Attendance in Hyderabad's colleges has shown a 25% decline and teachers are blaming it on the ongoing  Seemandhra protests . Students from the two regions pursuing courses in technology and undergraduate colleges in Hyderabad have left for their homes, either due to fear of a backlash in the 'T' region or to participate in the protest which has gripped  coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema . College officials said the drop in attendance started last week after teachers found Seemandhra students 'missing' from the classes. Authorities say about 40% of the students, who study in the city hail from the 13 non-Telangana districts. The numbers are expected to fall further in the coming days, they rued. Predictably, most students who have left for their hometowns have also expressed their anxieties about staying back in the city where resentment towards united  Andhra Pradesh  protests is on the rise. YSRCP chief Jaganmohan Reddy had on October 4 said that it was not too late to revoke the Union Cabinet's decision to create a separate Telangana. As part of the protests against the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, YSR Congress Party (YSRPC) chief Jaganmohan Reddy on Saturday began an indefinite fast. This comes even as the Centre has begun working on a special package to pacify the Seemandhra region. Jagan said that he would challenge the decision of the Centre to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh in the Supreme Court. "We will challenge the Centre's decision (to divide AP) in the Supreme Court," Jagan said at the 'deeksha' camp. Noting that there were "legal problems" involved in the state's division, he wondered how the Centre could find solutions in six weeks. General Assembly, presided over a 20-minute Cabinet meeting. “The decision of the Cabinet was unanimous,” Mr. Tewari told the media. Rajya Sabha member Rasheed Masood on October 1 became the first member of Parliament (MP) to be disqualified after a special CBI court sentenced him to four years in jail in a corruption case. On September 19, the court had convicted the Congress leader of fraudulently nominating undeserving candidates to MBBS seats allotted to Tripura in medical colleges across the country from the central pool as health minister in 1990. One of the candidates was his nephew.  Masood was the minister of state for health in the VP Singh government between 1990 and 1991.
