SENIOR BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu, while addressing an election rally at Kozhikode in Karela on April 10,2011 said the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre would not last long and alleged that the Prime Minister had "miserably failed" to tackle corruption.
Speaking to reporters, Naidu said "I can visualise a second Jayaprakash Narayan movement in the offing. The UPA Government will not last long and the country may have mid-term polls".
On the enactment of Lokpal bill, Naidu said the support social activist Anna Hazare received across the country was not only for Lokpal Bill. "It is an expression of people''s anger against corruption", he said.
Emphasising the need for "political will" to fight corruption, Naidu alleged that Prime Minister Manomohan Singh had "miserably failed" to take action against the corrupt.
Singh "allowed corruption to take place" and thus, the present UPA regime "became the most corrupt government since independence", he alleged.
Naidu cited the 2G spectrum allocation scam, Commonwealth Games and Adarsh housing flat scam, and said the Prime Minister had kept silent over the scandals. "Any other Prime Minister would have taken action or would have resigned from the post in any country", he said.
On the political trend in other states, Naidu said public anger against the non-performance of the state governments in the five states that are going to polls, would see them being ousted.
Lashing out at the CPI(M), Naidu said Congress had been their ally between 2004 to 2009, "but in 2011 Congress had become a bad party". Describing the relationship between the two parties, he said it was "cooperation in 2004, operation in 2009, separation in 2011".
Naidu said there was a perceptible change among the people as people of Kerala are fed up with both the LDF and UDF. "Both LDF and UDF are two sides of the same coin", he said.
Stating that Kerala was lagging far behind compared to other southern states, Naidu said that the Planning Commission had said Kerala which was in the 7th place in development had slipped down to 17th place in the country.
Alleging that both the fronts are encouraging fundamentalist and communal forces, he said they had joined together to pass a resolution in the State assembly in favour of PDP leader Abdul Nasar Madhani, an accused in the Bangalore serial bomb blast case and presently in jail.
BJP was confident of entering the assembly as there was tremendous goodwill for the party this time, he said.
