Diwali phir aayegi sajni, roop ka deep jala ke...( Khajanchi), Diya jalao jagmag jagmag...(Tansen), Aayi Diwali, ayi Diwali..., Deepak sang patanga naache...(Ratan),Diya jalakar aap bhuchaya...(Gaon Ki Gori), were songs stormed the era of forties.
In 50s, Sohrab Modi produced a film Ghar Ghar Mein Diwali, whose Diye jale ghar ghar mein aayi Diwali became the beauty of the lip and credit goes to music maestro Roshan who jeweled the song with his music and the other song (title song) of Diwali Ki Raat (1956) was also one hit song of the era. In the era of 50s and 60s, the lyricists wrote many songs based on Deepak/Diwali and some of them got popularity and other songs were average. The songs remained in heart were Kis kis ko Deepak pyar kare, jab lakh patenge jalte hoin...(Anjali), Diya to jala sab rat re baalam...(Dhake Ki Malmal),Kaise manaye diwali lala...(Paigaam),Ye kaisa niaye tera,Deepak tale andhera...(Chhoti Bahen),Jyoti kalash jhalke...(Bhabhi Ki Chhodiyan),Diya na bhhuje ri aaj hamara...(Son Of India),Lakhon tare aasman mein,ek magar dhunde na mila, dekh ke duniya ki Diwali dil mera chup chap jala...(Haryali Aur Raasta),Aayee ab ke saal Diwali...(Haqikat), Dil ka diya jala kar gaya...(Aakashdeep),Raat aur din diya jale...(Raat Aur Din), Diye jalao pyre ke...(Dharti Kahe Pukar Ke).

Jag ne utare, dharti pe tare
Par man mera murjhaye
Un bin aali bina kaisi Diwali
Milne ko akulaye
Aa sajan payal pukare
Jhanak jhan jhan,
Jhanak jhan jhan
Piya tose naina laage re
The dance of Waheeda Rehman and the voice of Lata Mangeshkar on the tunes of S.D.Burman made the song memorable. The noise of crackers on the screen added flavour to the song.

Some time Deepavali enlightens the dark life. In Aditya Chopra Mohabbatain Prity Jhangiani, a widow, restarts her life by throwing away the white saree and falls in love. In Saajan ka Ghar crackers brings darkness in the life of the childless Juhi when a spark of the crackers falls in the eyes.
