Ishrat case proves how Gandhis were spooked by the rise of Modi

Former Home Secretary GK Pillai’s admission on Times Now – that an affidavit filed in the alleged “fake encounter” in Gujarat that killed four Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorists, including Ishrat Jahan, was deliberately changed under political direction to omit mention of their LeT affiliation – has set the cat among the pigeons. Since this allegation has more or less been admitted by P Chidambaram in an interview to NDTV, it shows the extent to which the Gandhi family saw Narendra Modi as a clear threat to its political domination even as early as 2009 (or even earlier), when the Congress party had just trounced the BJP in the general elections. Chidambaram told NDTV: “The original affidavit did say that A, B, C, D were terrorists, but the IB’s position was we don’t name or charge anyone as terrorists… therefore a second affidavit had to be filed to clarify (that),” and that he “owned the decision” to file the second affidavit. Indianisation Of The British System Of Parliamentary Democracy

During debates in the Constituent Assembly on the system of government the country would adopt, the chief architects of the Constitution made it abundantly clear that though the term ‘parliamentary democracy’ was not mentioned in the Constitution,  they were adopting the British parliamentary system of democracy (also known as the Westminster model) and expected that healthy conventions that developed in Britain to ensure the smooth functioning of the unwritten constitution there would also develop in India to take care of what was not put in black and white. Even after the Constitution came into force, debates, interpretations and clarifications continued for quite some time. In a landmark judgement in “Rai Sahib Ram Jawaya Kapur & Others vs The State of Punjab” (12 April, 1955), the Supreme Court held that “Our Constitution, though federal in its structure, is modelled on the British Parliamentary system.” Prima facie, our parliamentary system is very much ...

Mumbai : Church Priest Allegedly Sexually Assaults a 12-Year-Old Boy

My boy is not the same jovial person that he was. He has changed,” says the mother of a 13-year-old boy who was allegedly molested by his parish priest in November last year. “Our boy had started considering us his enemies because we did not take him seriously at first. He refused to go to the church and feared meeting the Father but we thought he was just being difficult.” It’s a double whammy for the family – not only are the parents grappling with the trauma that their son went through but also the guilt that they did not believe him when he first complained. The boy’s father who was born and brought up under the Govandi parish said that his son had first complained about Father Johnson Lawrence in August last year. The family, however, brushed aside the incident without ever linking his changed behaviour and physical issues to a sexual assault. “He had complained of bleeding that time and we thought it could be due to over consumption of non-vegetarian food,” said the father...

New Delhi : Recently declassified documents have confirmed previous claims that the INA treasure was looted. One of the aides was awarded and made publicity adviser of PM Nehru’s flagship Five Year Plans. The treasure was estimated to be worth $700,000. The treasure “scam” was first detailed by author Anuj Dhar in his 2012 book “India’s biggest cover-up”. On May 21, 1951, Tokyo Mission head K K Chettur wrote to commonwealth relations secretary B N Chakravarty raising suspicions about two key Bose aides – propaganda minister S A Ayer and head of the Indian Independence League in Tokyo, Munga Ramamurti. “As you are no doubt aware, there have been serious allegations against Ramamurti ...
