In the name of reforms government under UPA is looting the public

Continuing her tirade against the Congress-led UPA, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee Saturday accused the central government of "looting in the name of reforms ". "Reforms are meant to usher development for the people. Nowadays, the trend is whenever any anti-people decision is taken, it is taken in the name of reforms. In the name of reforms and 'aam admi', loot is going loot," wrote Banerjee on Facebook. Ever since withdrawing support from the UPA on the issues of economic reforms, Banerjee has been attacking the government, demanding a roll back of FDI in retail and hike in diesel prices. Six Trinamool Congress central ministers had submitted their resignations Sep 21 to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in protest against allowing FDI in retail, diesel price hike and the cap on subsidised cooking gas cylinders. Her comment comes on a day when she has left for Delhi for her party's demonstration in the

Nitish Kumar faces the wrath of the teachers

Patna,  : Contractual teachers threw slippers at Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during a public meeting in Bihar's Madhepura district on September 28, police said. Angry teachers show slippers to Nitish Kumar Raising posters and placards and shouting slogans, the para teachers created a ruckus at the public meeting. Teachers throwing chappals at Nitish Kumar This was the fourth such protest against the Bihar Chief Minister. These teachers had earlier protested against Mr Kumar in East Champaran, Sitamarhi and Muzaffarpur districts. The Chief Minister, however, blamed Opposition parties for instigating the para teachers. "Some of them threw four or five slippers at the stage where the chief minister was sitting to express their anger," a police official said. The teachers (known as para-teachers) were protesting against Nitish Kumar for the non-fulfilment of their demands. Earlier in the day, 23 contractual protesting teachers were arrested from the venue

HJS demands arrest of Dr. Zakir Naik; else intense agitation will be staged !

Mumbai : The so-called Islamic thinker, Dr. Zakir Naik against whom ‘Deoband' has issued a ‘fatwa’, tried to hurt religious sentiments of Hindus by denigrating Shri Ganesh; that too, during the Ganesh Festival. He has given a challenge to Hindus, through the medium of ‘Facebook’ and ‘You-tube’, to prove that Shri Ganapati is a Deity. A complaint has been lodged by office bearers of Ganesh Festival Mandals and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) with various Police Stations all over the State demanding that ‘when Ganesh Festival is being celebrated in peaceful atmosphere, Dr. Zakir Naik is trying to disturb Hindu-Muslim harmony by giving such challenge; therefore, case should be immediately filed against him’. The above information was given by Mr. Ramsh Shinde, the national spokesperson of HJS in a press conference . It has been observed during Mumbai riots that took place on 11th August that ‘Internet’ is a very effective medium. Similar terrorism is being spread by Dr. Zakir Naik t

Ghaziabad (Masuri) Violence: Intelligence Failure

What can be better than ever in such a state where Mullah Mulayam Singh Yadav, the friend of venomous Syed Abdulla Bukhari, the preceding Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Delhi is the father of the present Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh which is also mentioned as the heartland of Indian politics. And Akhilesh Singh Yadav, the Present CM, is a fan of present Shahi Imam, Syed Ahmed Bhukhari, son of Abdulla Bukhari. Jama Masjid, which is considered as the Fatwa and Jihad epicentre of India. Moreover, that notorious Azam Khan is the Urban Development & Minority Affairs Minister and Key Position holder of present UP cabinet, who likes to call Mother India as a witch. So there is no astonishing in the Friday, the most auspicious Jihad day, on 15th Sept 2012 that the city of Gaziabad horrified all the Kaffir (Hindus and Non-Muslims) inhabitants instantly over a rumour of desecration of Quran. Rumours are generated without cost most of the time. Even as the situation remained tense in Masuri

Congress of the corruption, by the corruption, for the corruption: Mamata

In what can be termed as a rise of regionalism in politics, West Bengal, Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress chief, Mamata Banerjee, said today that she “will be happy to be of a part of Federal Front”. “I would like to go for a Federal Front. States should be more powerful,” Banerjee told CNN-IBN, Editor-in-Chief, Rajdeep Sardesai in an exclusive interview. Although making her political choice clear, Banerjee who is “fed up” with the Congress, however, did not rule out an alliance in future with the national party, saying that her party will decide upon the strategy accordingly. “I cannot decide on tomorrow’s strategy. I have a party with me. I am fed up with the Congress,” Banerjee said. The Trinamool Congress formally broke its ties with the UPA government at the Centre on 22 September with six Union ministers—Mukul Roy, Saugata Roy, Sudip Bandhopadhyay, Sisir Adhikari, CM Jatua and Sultan Ahmed—submitting their resignation to Prime MinisterManmohan Singh and a withdraw

India is like a boat without a sailor: Modi

Surat: Taking another dig at the Prime Minister’s statement that money does not grow on trees, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi  said the PM had “tree of 2G spectrum, tree of coal scam”, and compared the country’s situation to that of “a boat without sailor”. “Public knows everything, Mr Prime Minister, you may or may not know, but people know you have tree of 2G spectrum, tree of coal scam!” Modi said here, addressing a campaign rally. “The PM doesn’t speak… or he cannot speak… or he doesn’t have anything to speak… Imagine, friends, the country is like a boat without sailor,” Modi said, targeting the Prime Minister for his silence at the time of power grid failure in July. “The country plunged into darkness one and a half months ago, leaving 70 crore population across 19 states struggling for power,” Modi said, adding that Gujarat was “the only state shining” during the crisis. Two days ago, Modi had said that for Congress, scams had become “money tree”. He also accus

BJP pumps up the adrenaline as Narendra Modi arrives

This time Narendra Modi kept his appointment with party colleagues at the inaugural session of the National Executive and Council meeting in Surajkund near Delhi today. Whether or not he will be the party’s chosen leader for the next Lok Sabha polls, one thing is clear: he is clearly the most sought-after leader who has the pulse of party workers. At around 11.30 am, there was a sudden commotion at the gates of the Surajkund meeting place on the Delhi-Haryana borders. “Hero Modiji has arrived,” a party worker shouted enthusiastically. The ordinary workers kept on falling and pushing each other to exchange greetings with the party strongman. Modi is aware of his stature among his party colleagues, high and low, but he keeps changing his sartorial style. He discarded his trademark half-sleeve kurta for the occasion and chose a cream-coloured buttoned full sleeve kurta. The BJP’s three-day conclave had started at the designated time of 11 am. But a group of party leaders and wor

Bilawal Bhutto's lady love

His antics at Oxford University would shock people in Pakistan awaiting Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's return to take over the political dream shaped by his murdered mother Benazir. The 19-year-old's preparation for his role in one of the world's Muslim states has certainly been unconventional. Orthodox Muslims will be surprised to see the new leader of the Pakistani People's Party with his arms slung casually around two girls, one of whom declares herself as "bisexual" on a social networking website. Conversations he has with friends on Facebook make reference to being hungover, his friendship with a girl he calls "Boozie Suzie" and "free alcohol". There is no evidence that Bilawal drinks alcohol – but he was certainly living it up with his two female friends at a raucous black-tie party thrown by a student drinking society. Bilawal had been enjoying his first year at Oxford before he was named as his mother's successor after h

In love with Bilawal: We’ve waited enough, says Khar

If a Bangladeshi tabloid is to be believed, President Asif Ali Zardari‘s son Bilawal Bhutto is ‘deeply in love’ with foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar. Pakistan is abuzz with the reports of their love affair, and their plans to get married and settle in Switzerland. Khar reportedly sent Bilawal a greeting card on his birthday on 21 September 2011 with hand-written message stating – “The foundation of our relations is eternal and soon we shall be just ourselves.” That’s not all. Media reports from Bangladesh suggested that Junior Zardari received a “special gift” from his girlfriend Khar on the day of Eid Ul Fitr. Later, he also received a flower bouquet and a hand-written greeting card stating – “No wonder we waited enough, not (sp) its time to give an end to our waiting. Eid Mubarak!” According to the Blitzweekly , Khar is poised to end her marriage with millionaire businessman Firoze Gulzar, from whom she has two daughters named Annaya and Dina. But, Bilawal’s father, Pres

Pak can’t just wash its hands off its minister’s bounty

Pakistan would like some “respect”, its telegenic Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar told Washington. But as Seema Sirohi pointed out that it’s hard to shed “misperceptions” when your own cabinet minister is putting a $100,000 bounty out on a filmmaker’s head. The real problem is not one renegade minister like Ghulam Ahmad Bilour stoking the flames. It’s the Pakistan government’s weak-kneed response. It has apparently expended all its fire and brimstone in protesting the idiotic film. Or it finds itself caught now in a bind of its own making. It has basically just distanced itself from the minister saying it’s his personal view, not the government’s official policy. This is not a Khomeini-style Supreme Leader fatwa just a Railways Minister going off the rails on his own. The Minister for Political Affairs, Maula Bakhsh Chandio shrugged off Bilour’s outrageous offer. He said the government had no concern with the bounty Bilour offered. He seemed more anxious to prove the Pakist

Electoral Reforms: Why 26 September could be an important day

On the 26th of this month, a confrontation is looming large. Not many will follow it and, I suspect, fewer still will report it [page 8, little column on bottom right – 50 words]. Obscurantism and obfuscation by some of our elected ones will, most likely, follow as well. This confrontation threatens to upset the transparent opaqueness on the whole issue of political/electoral funding, such funds being then deployed to subvert, mock and sully the electoral landscape. Congress, BJP, BSP, NCP etc have thumbed their noses at RTI with a somewhat infernal smugness, while dodging some simple questions pertaining to their finances – and the Chief Information Commissioner has taken this breach seriously. Let me quote selectively from the ADR press-note dated 22 September, 2012, and other documents related to this case, and present the sequence of events that have transpired thus far: Background: On being asked questions through RTI on their largest donors and the manner of these donatio

What was left unsaid at Congress Working Committee meet

The Congress Working Committee meeting has perhaps been the biggest anti-climatic political meeting in a while. With big issues on the plate including the formation of Telangana, a Cabinet reshuffle and the potential elevation of Rahul Gandhi; the senior leaders of the party, instead chose to merely endorse the economic decisions taken by the government over a week ago. None of the Congress leaders at the meeting voiced any opposition to the decisions, but listened to the Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh give them an explanation on why they were needed and their importance. According to the two leaders, the welfare schemes of the Congress would be in peril in the event that the economy’s growth failed to continue or stumbled on account of factors that are affecting the global economy. The Finance Minister told us that if the economy is not stable then relief programmes for the poor will not be possible. He said that the value of the rupee should

Cleric's daughter paraded naked, sexually assaulted in Pakistan

Islamabad:Sep 23, 2012,(PTI): A cleric's daughter was allegedly paraded nude in a village of Pakistan's Punjab province by young men seeking revenge for her brother's actions, according to a media report on Saturday. The incident occurred when three daughters of cleric Allah Ditta were returning home late on Wednesday after shopping. Two of them were scheduled to be married on Thursday, The Express Tribune reported. The three girls were attacked by five youths in Nawan Lahore area of Faisalabad district. Two of the girls escaped and hid in nearby houses while their sister, Rahila, was caught by the assailants. The young men tore off her clothes and attempted to sexually assault her. They then allegedly paraded her before the village and announced that anyone who opposed them would face similar consequences. They attempted to kidnap and rape her but she offered resistance," said Allah Ditta. One of the five men had recently accused the cleric's son

Woman posing as ISRO scientist arrested in Bangalore

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which guards high-profile sensitive installations ac

UPA is responsible India's failing economic health

Surat, Sep 25 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has launched a fresh salvo at the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, holding him accountable for the country's deteriorating economic health. While addressing a public gathering on Sept 24, Modi attacked Dr. Singh by mocking him over keeping silent on key burning issues spanning over spiralling corruption and scams plaguing the country. "Our Prime Minister does not speak up. Maybe he does not want to speak. Or may be there is nothing to speak about. Is there any other country in the world like ours? Our country is like a ship without any captain," said Modi. He further accused the Prime Minister of amassing massive wealth through different financial scandals like the multi billion dollar telecom and coal scam. "Mr. Prime Minister you might not be aware but the country knows that you have a tree each for 2G spectrum and coal scam. You have been minting money from these trees. The people of this co

Former cricketer turned politician Imran Khan and his 'sex innings'

Islamabad: Though his cricketing career was still in its early stages in the mid-1970s, Imran Khan's love life was constant and he generally brought a 'special' girl with him to his matches, claims a biography of Pakistan's cricketer-turned politician. The book claims flings, girls and sex was gallore in the former Pakistan cricketer's life. Here's a look at his personal life. Khan married Jemima Goldsmith on May 16, 1995, in Paris. The marriage, described as "tough" by Khan, produced two sons, Sulaiman Isa and Kasim. As an agreement of his marriage, Khan spent four months a year in England. In 2004, the couple divorced because it was "difficult for Jemima to adapt to life in Pakistan". During 1970s and 1980s, Khan became known as a socialite due to his "non-stop partying" at London nightclubs such as Annabel's and Tramp, though he claims to have hated English pubs and to never drink alcohol. He gained notoriety

Rahul Gandhi's lady love

There have been Indo-Pak cricket matches and nuptials too. In the past actor Reena Roy married Pakistani cricketer Mohsin Khan.  Tennis pro Sania Mirza is about to marry Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik. Now is the turn of politician Rahul Gandhi to marry Pakistani poet/writer/socialite Fatima Bhutto (27) or future politician Sassi Bhutto (28). It is about time Rahul married and settled down. At 39, he is the most eligible Indian bachelor. His Spanish Columbian girlfriend Veronique didn’t last long. Indira married a Parsi, Rajiv married a Christian and Rahul can marry a Muslim. This will truly be national integration. Relations between the two countries will normalize in a jiffy. Fatima/Sassi’s great grandfather SN Bhutto was married to a Hindu (Lakhi Bai), who later converted to Islam. Faith is not a matter of utmost concern here. It is not sure whether Sonia/Rahul follow Christian or Parsi/Hindu faith. So let’s leave the choice to Fatima/Sassi whether either of them a

Rs.2,300 Crore Annual Pay, Pension Package for Defence Personnel

New Delhi, Sep 25 (IANS): The government Monday approved a Rs.2,300 crore per year (about $430 million) proposal to fix the anomalies in the pay and pension of 1.3-million strong defence personnel, 2 million ex-servicemen and another 400,000 military widows, in a bid to assuage their hurt over the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations implemented in 2008. "The union cabinet has approved the recommendations of the committee headed by cabinet secretary (Ajit Seth) for benefits to ex-servicemen on four issues. The financial implications of the improvements made as per the cabinet decision on the four items are broadly estimated at Rs.2,300 crore per annum," a government official said here soon after the cabinet meeting. "These are expected to largely meet the demands of the defence pensioners on 'one rank - one pension' (OROP)," the official said. The approved proposals would be implemented "from a prospective date and payment made accordingly,"
