Bhatt not present in meeting with Narendra Modi: Ex-DGP

GUJARAT'S Director General of Police at the time of post-Godhra riots today said IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, who has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court implicating Narendra Modi in the communal clashes, was not present in the meeting with the Chief Minister held on February 27, 2002. "He (Sanjiv Bhatt) was not present in that particular meeting held with the Chief Minister and other high-ranking officials. I have told this to the Special Investigation Team (probing the riots) during my deposition," K Chakrabarthi, now retired, said over phone from Mumbai. "Now, it is up to the SIT and Supreme Court to decide on it," he said. Bhatt, in his affidavit, has said he attended the said meeting (on the day of Godhra train burning incident) as he was asked to accompany the DGP by the state control room. Bhatt, posted as DCP at the State Intelligence Bureau (SIB) during the 2002 riots, said he had attended the meeting along with the DGP. In his testimony before the SI

It is time Pakistan declared a 'terrorist state': Rushdie

Washington: As Pakistan faced tough questions over Osama bin Laden, celebrated Indian-born novelist Salman Rushdie said it was time to declare it a "terrorist state", observing "the old flim-flam" of saying the country knew nothing about his whereabouts would not work anymore. "This time the facts speak too loudly to be hushed up," he said in an essay published on the website 'The Daily Beast' after the world's most wanted terrorist and 9/11 mastermind was found down the road from Pakistan's top military academy in Abbottabad, about 120 km from Islamabad yesterday. Rushdie said in the aftermath of the US raid on bin Laden's mansion all the "big" questions needed to be answered by Pakistan. "The old flim-flam (Who, us? We knew nothing!) just isn't going to wash, must not be allowed to wash by countries such as the United States that have persisted in treating Pakistan as an ally even though they have long known about

Why the US hid Osama Op from Pak!

Wikileaks reveal Pak tipped Osama whenever US troops were near; ISI protected Qaeda operatives, waged war on US London/New York/Toronto: US diplomats were told that one of the key reasons why they had failed to find Osama bin Laden for years was that Pakistan's security services tipped him off whenever US troops approached, according to claims made in leaked US government documents obtained by WikiLeaks. Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) also allegedly smuggled al-Qaeda terrorists through airport security to help them avoid capture and sent a unit into Afghanistan to fight alongside the Taliban, the WikiLeaks cables obtained by Britain's Daily Telegraph show. The claims, the daily said, will add to questions over Pakistan's capacity to fight the dreaded terror outfit al-Qaeda. In December 2009, the government of Tajikistan warned the US that efforts to catch Osama were being thwarted by corrupt Pakistani spies. According to a US diplomatic dispatch, General
