Hyderabad : The Hyderabad police are exploring the possibility of invoking the National Security Act (NSA) against MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi. This follows a letter from the Union home ministry earlier this month seeking a detailed report about the alleged hate speeches that Akbar Owaisi delivered in 2012. Hyderabad police commissioner M Mahender Reddy has entrusted the Special Branch (SB) of the city police to critically examine the MIM floor leader’s hate speeches, which attract the relevant sections of the 1980 vintage NSA. The SB officials are scrutinizing a specific hate speech delivered on December 22, 2012 at Nirmal Town in Adilabad district. However, top police officials in the state feel that criminal proceedings against the hate speeches have already been initiated against the MIM MLA and invoking of the stringent NSA would create unrest in the state. Beijing : A court in China’s mainly Muslim Xinjiang region has sentenced a man to six years in prison for “provoking trouble” and growing a beard, a practise discouraged by local authorities, a newspaper reported on March 22. The court in the desert oasis city of Kashgar sentenced the 38-year-old Uighur to six years, while his wife was given a two-year sentence, according to the China Youth Daily. The man “had started growing his beard in 2010″ while his wife “wore a veil hiding her face and a burqa”, the paper said. The couple were found guilty of “picking quarrels and provoking trouble”, a vague accusation regularly used in the Chinese judicial system. For more than a year the authorities in Xinjiang have been campaigning against men growing beards — a practice officials associate with extremist ideas. Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan have been ousted from the Aam Aadmi Party National Executive amid scenes of high drama. Yogendra Yadav's supporters Anand Kumar and Ajit Jha were also dropped. According to Firstpost reporter Tarique Anwar who is at the venue of the meet, "soon after Kejriwal's address to the AAP's NC meet, a resolution undersigned by 200 members have been moved in the meet to oust the Bhushan-Yadav duo from National Executive. Out of the total 354 members, 300 took part in the move. All the demands put forth by the dissenting leaders were rejected." The resolution was reportedly then passed by a show of hands.
