Who was more cruel – Aurangzeb or Shah Jahan ?

The last emperor of the Great Mughals, ‘ Aurangzeb ’ has been renowned for his atrocities especially for killing his elder brother, Dara Shikoh and also for keeping his father and predecessor, Shah Jahan in captivity until his death. Shah Jahan, on the other hand is well-known for his marvelous monument Taj Mahal – A Symbol of Undying Love for his beloved wife and is even sympathized for his last 8 years of confinement. However, if we care to look at history carefully we will find Aurangzeb has done nothing out of the box but just followed his father’s footstep of brutality toward one own kin. In fact Aurangzeb’s malevolence towards his family is nothing as compared to his father, Shah Jahan. Le t’s divulge into t 1 he details: The history of Mughal Empire is stuffed with fratricidal actions and blood-spattered succession battles among kinsmen as if it was an essential overture to succession from a prince to an Emperor. However, in all of these, the most pitiable case, just like th

Who was Jodha Bai : Akbar’s Wife or Daughter-in-law?

“ What’s in a name? That which we call rose by any another name would smell as sweet ” said the famous 16 th  century poet William Shakespeare in Romeo and Juliet. Little did the great poet or any another learned men knew that a change in name would be the reason of communal violence, conflicts, turmoil and even a threat to the ancient history on the other side of the globe. His countryman Col. James Tod followed the quote so ardently that he even did not take care to look into records while writing his book Annals and Antiquities of Rajasthan . This British East India employee and an amateur historian went ahead by quoting one of the most disastrous line in history and that is none other than “…On the union of the imperial house with that of Jodhpur, by  the marriage of Jodha Bai to Akbar , ….. (sic)”. Jodha Bai, Image Source : IANS The historian clearly mentions in page 965 of his book (Volume II) that it was Jodha bai of Jodhpur who married Akbar. Probably being an English

Aurangzeb’s Policies Towards Hindus

Aurangzeb , the last of the Great Mughals although strong and bold is mostly infamous for his bigotry and aggressive policies towards the non-muslims especially Hindus. A staunch Muslim at heart, he had zeal to spread Islam at a great speed and so he not only killed Hindus but also ripped them off from their wealth and position. This is the general perception of the historians or maybe they used this facet in exaggerating his character a lot. However, in his time, did he only prosecuted Hindus alone and treat Muslims with great pomp and honor? Absolutely not! Aurangzeb executed all his opponents irrespective of their religion, whether Hindus or Muslims. In the war of succession, he even went ahead by killing his own brother  Dara Shikoh . So, the point to be noted is that, he was not selective to Hindus alone. Aurangzeb In Darbar In fact, during his period, Hindu nobles and kings were treated way better than his predecessors when it came to position and ranks. Here, I would lik

Aurangzeb Road In Delhi To Be Renamed As APJ Abdul Kalam Road

The road, Aurangzeb road which commences from India Gate and leads to prime minister’s home, would very soon be altered to APJ Abdul Kalam road. Although this act is just a tad of homage to such eminent figure who left us all with only memories behind, but a commendable step has been undertaken by the government. “There were requests from certain sections of the society for changing the name of the road as a tribute to the former President. The matter was placed before the council today which unanimously gave a go ahead for the same”, said  Karan Singh  Tanwar, Vice Chairman, New Delhi Municipal Council  Since his demise, plethora of requests for designating a road on Kalam’s name flooded Delhi Municipal. Ultimately, the heartfelt love and admiration of Indians paid off and the ‘much-awaited demand’ has got its supply from NDMC.

When the Price of Onions Goes Up!

Onions  are hitting the century 0f price / Kg in the Indian subcontinent, more than quadrupled in the last few months and may go further up. It is a staple diet of most of the Indians.  For almost every dish we need onions.  According to Shri Nabansu Chattopadhyay, the deputy director general IMD, the main onion growing areas – Karnataka  and Maharashtra, are going through severe drought and it will affect the output of the crop in September also. Dharwad district of Karnataka, which produces over 4 lakh tonnes of onion, has witnessed complete destruction of the crop due to drought. Karnataka and Maharashtra produces around 70 per cent of the onion crop in the country. Dharwad, Chikmangloor, Chitradurga and other onion producing areas of Karnataka are experiencing severe drought, which will impact the output. In Maharashtra, the late sowing will delay the arrival of the crop and there will also be a decrease in the output. In 1998, the BJP government was voted out of power in Delhi

The GoTopless Pride Parade took to the streets of midtown Manhattan to counter critics complaining about topless tip-seekers in Times Square. Appearing bare-breasted has been legal in New York since 1992. But Mayor Bill de Blasio and police Commissioner Bill Bratton say the body-painted women in the square who take photos with tourists are a nuisance. The mayor even suggested doing away with the pedestrian plaza at the "Crossroads of the World" — to control both the topless women trolling for tips and the

Why Pakistani Army Won’t Stop Supporting Terrorism Against India

The grief and anguish that swept over India and Pakistan after the Shocking Peshawar Attacks  had sparked a faint hope for a united stand against Terrorism by India and Pakistan. But that  hope was quashed in less than 48 hours when Anti-Terrorism court of Pakistan granted bail to Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, the mastermind of 26/11 Mumbai Attack. This has severely disheartened the Indians; especially the families of the victims of the Mumbai attacks, who were expecting co-operation from the Pakistani side in bring the perpetrators of the Mumbai Attack to Justice. While, Pakistan has come strongly against the Taliban in Pakistan, it is also supporting Terrorist activities aimed at neighbouring countries, especially India and Afghanistan. This duplicity of Pakistan makes us wonder if they have totally lost it. Have they not read the Frankenstein story?  As Hillary Clinton had pointed out in reference to Pakistan, “ you can’t keep snakes in your backyard and expect them only to bite yo

India – Pak Dialogue

The upcoming  Indo-pak  dialogue, appeared to be virtually  called off with the two countries locked their horns over Kashmiri separatists.  Pakistan deviated from Ufa agreement reached between two national heads in last month. It was agreed between two heads that NSA level meeting will be held on Terrorists & other composite issues, as reported in media.  In recent weeks several documents captured by India proves the fact of Pak’s involvement in terrorist attacks.  As such it was suicidal for them to participate in NSA level talk in which Pak were bound to exposed. Secondly, Pak’s true ruler is army & ISI not political boss unlike India. In our country Political boss is all in all. Army & ISI nerve supported good relationship with India. This is not the first time that the agreement had been distorted & deviated by Pak, it is simply a part of their habits.Islamabad’s insistence on meeting Hurriyat leaders as a pre condition was a complete departure from the Ufa  unde

What’s Wrong with Our Political Spokespersons?

The sure and certain recipe of making oneself appear insufferably arrogant is to assume the role of a party political spokesperson in India. It would almost seem to be a pre-requisite to have a stratospheric level of self-righteousness coupled with and unashamedly persistent penchant for mendacity and a very high decibel level to make a mark in this unenviable vocation.  The answer is simple! The more you stake your reputation to appear as patently absurd to any discerning observer, the greater likelihood of you being conferred the limitless perks of power within the political hierarchy! For years we have been treated to spokespersons of different parties, otherwise quite affable and possessed of  enviable academic credentials make buffoons of themselves by espousal of positions which by most charitable interpretations appear devoid of logic and at times grossly amoral. We had to endure Manish Tewari for years whose sole brief was to appear supercilious and deflect the course
